At the turn of the 20th Century Swiss hotelier Cesar Ritz, knows as the “king of hoteliers and hotelier to kings” inspired the term “putting on the ritz” by redefining luxury accommodations with the Hotel Ritz in Paris and the Carlton Hotel in London.

Vail Resorts, Inc. announced that the company has submitted a proposal to the U.S. Forest Service for a comprehensive summer activities plan at Vail Mountain, the largest ski resort in the United States.


During World War II, the skiing 10th Mountain Division trained at Colorado's Fort Hale. After the war, two veterans, influenced by their love of skiing and the picturesque alpine towns of Europe, returned to build an American resort to rival the best of the Alps, and in 1962, Vail was born.

You clamber through a warren of concrete and metal studding, wires and klieg lights and construction workers, and then open a door to a completed penthouse condo at the Ritz-Carlton Residences in Vail.

Graham Frank, senior project manager for The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Vail, says the plastic wrap and scaffolding on the east side of the property have recently come down, unveiling Bavarian-style architecture and featuring warm, yellow hues.
